A week after the first phase of ‘Mission Begin Again’ took off, Maharashtra as well as Mumbai saw a big surge in cases and deaths on Wednesday. The deaths were highest in a day: 149 in the state—the previous highest toll was 139 (on June 5)—and 97 in Mumbai, whose previous highest 24-hour toll was 64 (on June 8). The state also saw its highest single-day rise in cases (3,254), which took the total cases to 94,041 just three months after the infection first arrived in the state.
